LibertyHealth Announces Greenville Hospital Plan

JERSEY CITY – Under a plan announced today, a triage center will remain at Greenville Hospital to assess patient medical needs with an ambulance on-site to transport patients to appropriate emergency care.

The plan was announced after discussions between LibertyHealth President and CEO Joe Scott, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, and state Sen. Sandra Cunningham, D-Hudson. Mayor Healy and Sen. Cunningham expressed concerns for the safety of area residents if they appear at Greenville Hospital once it closes.

As always, in the event of a medical emergency, dial 911.

Patients will not be treated at or admitted to Greenville Hospital when it closes Wednesday. The triage nurse at the facility and ambulance will assist patients if they present at the hospital and help them find nearby appropriate medical care. The ambulance will be on-site 24-hours a day.

“We are maintaining a presence at the hospital to ensure the safety of the public. LibertyHealth is doing everything possible to inform the public about the availability of nearby health care resources,” said Scott.

A triage nurse provides a quick assessment of a patient to determine what type of medical treatment they need, such as whether they need to see a doctor or need emergency treatment. The triage nurse at Greenville Hospital will be able to provide information about available resources or, if necessary, arrange for the immediate transport of the patient to a nearby hospital.

To help residents find appropriate care, LibertyHealth has mailed a brochure to all households in the Greenville community with transportation information and locations of area medical facilities. For help finding local medical facilities and transportation information, area residents may call LibertyHealth at 201-915-2000. They will be provided with information on options for medical care nearby, medical transport options, and mass transit options.
