LibertyHealth Announces Board Leadership,
New Members


JERSEY CITY – The LibertyHealth System Inc. Board of Directors has chosen Lynn Schundler, an attorney active in many area social service programs, to be chair of the board where she has served since 1997.Schundler is the wife of former Jersey City Mayor Bret Schundler.

The Board also appointed two new members, Thomas Gallagher and Gary Heinz.

After 15 years on the board, the last year as chairman, Brett Harwood, a distinguished businessman, philanthropist and community leader, will leave the LibertyHealth Board due to term limits. Harwood joined the board in 1993 and among his many accomplishments raised millions of dollars to make the new Jersey City Medical Center a reality.

“On behalf of the entire Board, I thank Brett Harwood for his dedication and leadership, especially during his year as chairman. LibertyHealth is a stronger organization ready to face the health needs of the community in large part because of Brett’s personal commitment to its future,” said Schundler.

New Board member Gallagher is the former director of the Department of Housing, Economic Development and Commerce for Jersey City. He is vice president of Lepercq, de Neuflize & Co., Inc., a firm specializing in property taxes and tax liens.

After a successful banking career on Wall Street, Heinz founded GWH Ventures LLC a real estate development, in January 2006,. He has been a Trustee of the Bergen County Economic Development Corporation since 2003.

The LibertyHealth Board, in addition to Schundler’s appointment, named the following offers of the Board: Robert Margulies, a prominent local attorney, is vice chair; Gallagher is secretary; and Gary Schermerhorn, a managing director of Goldman Sachs, is treasurer.
