Nurses Honor E. Stephen Kirby
E. Stephen Kirby, acting president and CEO of LibertyHealth, received the Institute for Nursing’s 2007 EPIC Award. Rita Smith, senior vice president of patient care services, representing the entire nursing body, nominated Kirby for the award, which is given to Exceptional People Impacting the Community. Kirby was selected to receive this honor for his extraordinary leadership and continuous support of nursing.
By supporting educational opportunities and improving the working environment, Kirby increased satisfaction among nurses and patients within LibertyHealth. With Kirby’s support over the last two years, the vacancy rate for nurses declined throughout LibertyHealth and specifically at Jersey City Medical Center/Wilzig Hospital to four percent, with a turnover rate of only three percent.
Kirby joined Liberty Health as senior vice president in November 1999 and served as executive vice president, chief operating officer/chief financial officer from 2002 to 2006.
The Award was presented during a luncheon on Wednesday, July 11 at the Marriott Princeton Hotel and Conference Center at Forrestal, 100 College Road East, Princeton, NJ.
LibertyHealth consists of Jersey City Medical Center, Meadowlands Hospital and Greenville Hospital.
